In this guide, I've explained a few ways to find old photos in Google Photos. It is Google's native service that allows you to store your photos in the cloud. Also, you will find the Photos app as a default repository on prominent Android smartphones.
It's pretty easy to find your photos in Google Photos. Usually, the problem of missing photos occurs when you have too many photos stored in the Photos app. With so much data, you're confused about how to find that one photo in Google Photos.
There are several ways to find old photos in Google Photos.
Organized by photo date.
Google Photos displays your photos that you've saved to it, starting with the most recent. This means that recent photos saved to Google Photos will appear at the top. As you scroll down, you'll see all the photos with the day and date of capture mentioned above.If you're using the Google Photos app on your mobile phone, here's a quick trick to scroll through any photo in Google Photos that's a few years old.
- Go to the Google Photos app.
- Start scrolling on the screen.
- On the right, you'll see a scroll button.
- Press and hold the scroller button, and on the right, you'll see a timeline of all recent years from the old format.
- When pressing the scroller, drag it to the point where you see the specified year.
It's easy to see this year's photos. If you're using the Google Photos web version on your PC, there you'll also see the same scroller controls that will help you navigate through years of photos backed up to cloud image storage.

Alternatively, you can specify the year or month in the Photos app's search tool. Pictures in that timeline will be displayed instantly. Use this method if you think scrolling around to find your photos can be time-consuming and annoying.- Open up the Google Photos app.
- Tap on Search.
- Type month-year / year in the search bar to find the corresponding photos from that timeline
For example, month-year format means September 2019 or just enter 2019 if you want to see all the photos from 2019.
In addition to that, you can use any word to find a set of photos related to that word.
- Open up the Google Photos app.
- Tap on Search.
- Type selfie in the search bar and all the selfies you've taken and saved in the Photos app will be displayed.
- Similarly, if you type concert, all the photos of a concert (saved in Photos) will be displayed.
If you want to recover photos from a specific location that you visited a few years ago, type the name of the location in the search bar. Backing up to Google Photos will show all photos taken in that location.
Finding photos by the faces of people in the picture.
You can identify one or more photos based on the faces of the people present in the photos stored in Google Photos.- Let's start with Google Photos.
- Under the People category, you can see the faces of different people from different pictures stored in Google Photos.
- Tap on See All under People to see all the photos that people have made.
- Then scroll down the timeline to the image of your choice.
- If there is a name under a face, it will make it easier for you to find photos.
- Simply type the person's name in the search bar and all photos featuring him or her will appear.
- Go to the Photos app.
- Click on Add Name under the People tab.
